Thailand 2015

I recently went to Phuket, Thailand for a week in late January and it was the second time I had been there so I was looking forward to cocktails, sun and fun!

We stayed at BanThai beach resort and spa which is in the heart of Phuket. Flying Virgin Australia from Sydney to Perth and stayed the night in Perth then flew Perth to Phuket. On arrival to the hotel you get ushered into a beautiful small room with windows and welcomed with a drink and refreshing cold towel.

As there were 6 of us we had 3 rooms on the third floor overlooking the pool. The BanThai was a perfect location for us and within walking distance to most places we wanted to go in Phuket. The resort has three pools with happy hour in a different pool everyday. The gym was small but all you need on holidays with a treadmill, step machine (whatever that's called), weights and a few other bits and pieces. It overlooks the breakfast area which is quite large with an outside deck for smokers and air con inside for those wishing not to sit out in the hot morning sun. The breakfast bar was massive with a great variety of food. There was a chef making eggs to order any way you liked, fresh fruit, bread, barista, Asian delicacies and the list goes on!!

Upon exiting the hotel you are on the main street with all the small shop fronts selling their goodies. To the right of the hotel is where we mostly frequented all the way up to Bangla road which is the main nightclub area through the night (they shut Bangala Rd to cars so the tourists can walk down the street).

I didn't buy much as I'm not a huge fan of fake items but what I did buy are hippy pants (SOOO comfy!) and lots of DVD's including season 4 of Game Of Thrones which I have recently just became obsessed with and now cannot wait until April and season 5!

We had a few crazy nights up at Bangla Rd where it alllllll happens.. SO many people, drinks, music, food.. pretty much everything you could think of!!

YES we did go to a Ping Pong show.. was it good.. NO! I went last time I visited Phuket and vowed to never go again but curiosity, alcohol and peer pressure got in the way of that! It was extremely disturbing and this one turned out to be more of a sex show and less about ping pongs! Bits and pieces flying everywhere (literally), drums being banged with thing they shouldn't and positions only gymnasts (and Thai's) can achieve!!!!!

We hired a private boat for AUD$1,500 and toured the islands for the whole day which was absolutely incredible and id highly recommend doing this. We had a guide and a driver plus assistant to take us around where ever we wanted to go. The first place we stopped was by far my favourite and somewhere only small boats can get to as opposed to the big touristy boats.
Because it was just the 6 of us we could stop, swim, eat when we wanted and didn't have a set schedule or worry about others which was the best.. and we brought our own alcohol and music on-board so it was like a day long party!

We went on a day long excursion up to the very north of Phuket and enjoyed white water rafting, quad biking, zip lining and some in our group did elephant riding. White water rafting was fun but there were a lot of other boats out on the water so I personally wouldn't do that again even though it was an energy rush.

The BEST and CHEAPEST Thai food is Sabai Sabai. Located on a small street on the right hand side opposite the beach between Bangala Rd and the maccas (best I can do) - according to trip advisor the address is 100/3 Patong Beach, Patong, Kathu, Phuket 83150, Thailand . Its pretty well known so most hotels and locals should be familiar with it along that strip. They do eat in or take away so a few nights we got take away and went back to our room and watched a DVD to relax before heading out for Bangla Rd.

I got an amazing facial from Takashi studio at Jungceylon which is the main mall in Phuket. Its an odd little place as all the beds are lined up together but I got an awesome 1 hour facial for under $100 and they did an awesome job! I'm extremely fussy when it comes to putting things on my face and people touching it so to say I was impressed is a big deal!
The only downside is that because all the beds are pushed together it can be a little noisy but it didn't bother me.

Thailand is definitely very beautiful and a lovely place to visit. All the locals are very friendly and always go out of their way to help you out. Compared to Bali I would say its more expensive and further to fly if you live on the East coast of Australia. A great destination for couples, families and anyone looking to have a tropical holiday for a reasonable price.
